Unfortunately, birds seldomly hold very still for me to take their photo - so unfortunately these aren't the best pictures, but still - some of my favourite Australian birds!!
1 Pelican at the Town of 1770, Queensland - actually we heard there are lots here near Adelaide at the Murray River, too!
2 + 6 Black Cockatoo and Guinea Fowl in a Sanctuary near Rockhampton, Queensland
3 Superb Blue Wren (Prachtstaffelschwanz, Hartmut! :-) in Coff's Harbour, New South Wales - they are so tiny and so pretty!
4 Magpie - they are really everywhere. Sometimes they look quite mean and always stunningly intelligent, but their song is the most beautiful of any bird.
5 All Cockatoos can sing and often talk quite well - but of all the sounds they can imitate they choose - a rusty door.
7 Crimson Rosella in Wilsons Prom, Victoria.
8 Noisy Miner, at some rest area along the road in Queensland - unfortunately the beautiful and soo cute Rainbow Lorikeets were always too quick for my camera.
9 Last - but not least - Australias icon, the Kookaburra. Unfortunately, I don't have a better picture of this cheeky but nice, large kingfisher - and you have to hear his song: the first times we heard it we couldn't believe a bird could make this racket, it sounds just as if a gaggle of monkeys would be chasing each other in the trees, chuckling and cackling - the Laughing Kookaburra!
